Sunset at the 25 de Abril Bridge in Lisbon
The cheap airlines tickets from Poland to Portugal (I took only a hand baggage) cost:
- Warsaw – Charleroi: 74zloty (Wizzair)
- Charleroi – Porto: 145zloty (Ryanair)
- Faro – Charleroi: 235zloty (Ryanair)
- Charleroi – Warsaw: 74zloty (Wizzair)
Colourful boats on the Douro river and the Dom Luis Bridge
In 16 days I visited the following cities:
- Porto
- Aveiro
- Leiria
- Alcobaca
- Fatima
- Lisbon
- Sintra
- Lagos
- Faro
- Charleroi (Belgium)
Advantages of holidays in Portugal (in my opinion):
- lovely weather – I travelled at the turn of August and September- there was a cloudless sky, temperature was above 20 degrees Celsius
- marvellous beaches – chance to see such beaches in Spain
- historic cities – almost all that I visited
- friendly and open people – I haven't met a single person who didn't want to help me
- delicious food – obviously, traditional Portuguese food
- Port wine – incomparably more delicious than in Poland
Disadvantages of holidays in Portugal (in my opinion):
- for such cheap holidays – I paid a little to much (good and tasty dinner costs at least 15 € )
- bus delays – this may drive you mad
- it's hard to communicate in English (especially with bus drivers)
Guidelines:
- Pingo Doce – a supermarket chain which belongs to the owner of Polish “Biedronka”. You may buy cheap food here
- Rede Expressos – remember to check all carrier connections before setting off
- wine opener – a very useful tool. You can't have it in your hand baggage but you may get it in every Portuguese shop. I left mine in the last hostel that I visited
- The best travelling season is in September – There are not so many tourists and the weather is fine but without excessive heat and flight prices are lower. Flight prices are lower too.
